Paulley Architects
has been instrumental in developing the concept of a new building type:
The Cancer Diagnostic & Treatement Centre.
These new healthcare
facilities are designed to be stand-alone and independent of existing
NHS Cancer Units and Centres. In response to Government initiative, they
would supplement the existing facilities by providing further diagnostic
capacity coupled with the ability to treat more routine forms of cancer.
In this way existing Cancer Centres would be able more readily to devote
their resources to the more complex regimes of cancer care.
The new Cancer Diagnostic
& Treatment Centre would deliver care within a non-clinical environment,
often altogether away from other healthcare buildings. In this way the
proposed buildings may help to reduce the stigma associated with cancer.
